((ooc; plotting post here. If you would like me to change anything please let me know! ♡ ALSO. Given your comment about Rise being the only one who knows Rise is a girl, I assume they already know each other? Wanted to be sure.))
Marriage was one of the greatest things moments in a girl's life, wasn't it? There was nothing lovelier than finding that one special person to be your anchor. That person who would be there for you through thick and thin, that you would never stop enjoying learning more and more about, to laugh with, to cry with, and weather the storm. Rise was ever the romantic and always had dreams of being swept away by a knight in shining armor to live an idyllic life in a cozy little cottage.
Well.
It has always been but a dream. Even someone so fanciful as her knew that such things happened only in fairy tales.
Yet she at least thought that she would have chosen her husband to be herself. Arranged marriage was typically something only reserved for nobles who cared about a 'proper' lineage and exchanging land and all that annoying diplomatic nonsense that treated people as bartering tools. Her family were farmers in soy beans and while she had begun to make a bit of a name for herself singing in taverns that's not exactly something people would consider desirable in a wife.
Yet the deals had been made and her betrothed seemed nice in his letters. It would help her parents and grandmother so she was happy. Really. A merchant family was a step up and from what she had heard they were a fairly prosperous one at that.
Wealthy enough to send for a carriage and even hire a body guard to escort her. That seemed a bit much if you asked Rise--it's not like she was anyone of particular import that would be targeted but she wouldn't say no to the company. It was to be a long trip, apparently.
So with the little belongings she had packed, her farewells said to her family, Rise awaited her companion at the carriage, looking properly bright and chipper.
[The past four months had been quite the adventure. Both she and Mayoi had been thrust into quite the strange situation. Rise had always known that there was more work than just sitting around looking pretty when it came to nobles but the full extent of everything that went into keeping a community running was....a lot.
Especially when you had had no training whatsoever for it.
Especially when you actually cared about making sure that your citizens got the best life you could give them.
Thankfully they were not alone in this. Mayoi's friends were wonderful people and they came from all sects of life which meant they had plenty of information and perspectives to aid in this endeavor.
Today, however, was a day spent in surveying the rest of the mansion. It's not exactly in the best of conditions and some of the upper floors really needed cleaning and reconstruction.]
Hey, have we checked out this area yet?
[Rise's ready to rest but they're almost done with this floor. She peers curiously at a balcony at the end of the hall. The glass-panned doors are rather grimy looking which seems to imply as much.]
[At least this kind of tedious cleaning is infinitely less stress for to him than any of his actual noble work. The sheer amount of speaking to people he's had to do in the past month has been unbearable and he was so thankful for something easy today. He is happy to climb around in the rafters to dust all the banisters!!!]
[He knows they are making progress, both on the house and with the community. He's lucky, he thinks, that there are so many conpetent people that he can work with. He does feel very inferior, but with them, and with Rise by his side, he knows that the work will get done. He'll do his very best, even if his best is not great.]
Ah?
[Mayoi squints down the hall.]
No... I don't think we have. Shall we take care of them and call it a night...?
[They probably need a good wash and there is probably some debris on the balcony, too.]
That sounds like a plan. I can't wait to get a bath.
[Given her background Rise is no stranger to hard work but her home had been a single room that combined both living and cooking space together and was shared by her parents and grandmother. It's not like they really had a lot to clean so with just the sheer amount they had to go through and all the dust constantly being kicked in the air she could keenly feel it in her hair and clothing.
Rise leads the way, pushing the door open to the balcony and looks out. As Mayoi had predicted there was debris there and part of the banister seemed to have cracked.]
Yeesh. How long as it been since someone was last up here?
[While he is no stranger to climbing around in the dust of old passages, he also has no desire to stay gross. A nice warm bath would be nice, actually.]
[Mayoi follows in after her, peering around with a frown.]
Decades, I think ...maybe more. I've asked Amagi about the history of the castle, and he's told me that he recalls no one living here during his lifetime, but there are some old records from his father of the previous Lord. He told me he would try and recover them if he could.
[Whoever they were, they did not sound notable from a noble standpoint. Since no one seems to remember them well, or that the castle was left in this state after whatever must have befallen them.]
A-Ah, please be careful! The structural integrity of this part of the castle might be suspect as it might be made of wood...!
